Sentence Rewriter

A free AI sentence rewriter. Paste a sentence that sounds clunky, wordy, or repetitive, and get several rewritten versions with different wording and structure. No login required.

How to Use the Sentence Rewriter

Paste one sentence into the box and submit. The tool returns a list of rewrites. Copy the one that fits, or combine the best parts of two. If none of them work, submit again for a fresh batch.

Add a short instruction after your sentence to steer the result, such as "make it more formal," "simpler words," "shorter," or "more confident." The more specific the instruction, the closer the rewrites land.

What Makes a Good Rewrite

A good rewrite says the same thing better. Look for versions that:

  • Put the main point first instead of burying it after a long setup.
  • Use an active verb where the original used "is," "was," or a passive construction.
  • Cut words that repeat what the sentence already says.
  • Match the tone of the sentences around it.

Read the rewrite in place, next to the sentences before and after it. A sentence that sounds great alone can break the rhythm of a paragraph.

Check the Meaning Every Time

AI rewrites can shift meaning in small ways: a "may" becomes a "will," a qualifier disappears, or a technical term is swapped for a near synonym that means something else. Compare each rewrite with your original before you use it, especially in legal, medical, academic, or technical writing.

Rewriting, Paraphrasing, and Honest Use

Rewriting your own sentence is ordinary editing. Rewording someone else's writing so it can pass as yours is plagiarism, whether a person or a tool does the rewording, and it is against the rules of most schools and publications. If the idea came from a source, cite it. For the difference between rewriting and paraphrasing and when each is appropriate, see rewrite vs paraphrase.
