How to Use the Discord Fonts Generator
Type or paste into the box and every style updates below it. Press the copy button next to the one you like, then paste it into Discord. For a name, open your profile settings and paste it into the display name field, or set it as your nickname in a single server.
Discord's Built-In Formatting
For chat messages you may not need special characters at all. Discord supports Markdown, so a few symbols around your text change how it looks. These are the options from Discord's Markdown guide:
| Style | Type this |
|---|---|
| Italic | *italics* or _italics_ |
| Bold | **bold** |
| Bold italic | ***bold italics*** |
| Underline | __underline__ |
| Strikethrough | ~~strikethrough~~ |
| Spoiler | ||spoiler|| |
| Inline code | `code` |
| Code block | ```code``` |
| Header | # Big, ## smaller, ### smallest |
| Subtext | -# small text |
| Quote | > quote (or >>> for several lines) |
| Masked link | [text](https://example.com) |
Headers, subtext, and quotes only work at the start of a line, and each needs a space after the symbol. Because the letters underneath stay ordinary text, Markdown is the better choice for chat: search still finds the words.
Where Unicode Fonts Work on Discord
Discord's Markdown is for messages. To style your name you need Unicode characters, and Discord's rules decide where they are allowed:
- Display names can be almost anything within the Community Guidelines, including special characters, emoji, and non-Latin characters, from 1 to 32 characters long.
- Server nicknames take priority over your display name inside that server, so you can use a styled name in one server and a plain one elsewhere.
- Usernames do not accept them. Discord limits usernames to lowercase Latin letters, numbers, underscores, and periods.
- Messages accept them anywhere you can type.
Those rules come from Discord's username and display name article. Other fields, such as server and role names, are not covered there, so paste a test before you commit.
Things to Know Before You Paste
A styled name is harder for friends to find, because ๐๐ฅ๐๐ฑ and "Alex" are different characters to a search box. Screen readers can read styled letters as math symbols or skip them. Some members on older devices may see empty boxes. A short styled word next to plain text tends to hold up better than a whole styled name.
